How you can boost your singing score on Rock Band?

If you’re a gamer like me who loves nothing more than turning on their console and rocking out to Guitar Hero or busting some moves on Just Dance, then why not pursue your hobby and attempt a world record like me?

As a games-fanatic, you probably enjoy playing a whole range of games, from bingo online at Cheekybingo to more interactive games like Rock Band and Dance Central. I have achieved some hardcore, high scores on Rock Band including a 115,163 point score for singing Heart of Glass by Blondie as well as scoring 195,604 points for belting out I Love Rock and Roll. I want to share some of my gaming tips with you which is why I have listed a few ways you can boost your vocal score on Rock Band. And who knows – it might help you break a world record!

Star Power

You can boost your score by building up your star power. When your star power level is full, make sure you activate it during a vocal-heavy part of the song. You’ll waste it by using it during the guitar solo. And remember, the longer you sing without making any mistakes, the longer the star power will stay active for.

Target your tone

Another way to boost your score is to drop consonants and focus on the vowels and the tone of your voice. Try sliding from tone to tone and see if that helps. Although it doesn’t sound quite as good when you’re singing, the system doesn’t care about that – it’s just monitoring your precision.

Sing early

A few points can be missed by starting to sing a fraction too late. So next time, try singing slightly ahead of time as this will ensure the arrow is lined up with the next line you’re about to sing.

Octaves

If you’re struggling with the octave of the song, rather than lose points due to poor precision, switch to a lower or higher octave. Finding a comfortable octave to sing in will make all the difference. Everyone has a ‘head voice’ and a ‘chest voice’, so learn when to use the right one.

Add volume to your vocals!

You’ll be able to hear your vocals much clearer if you go into the audio settings and increase the vocal settings. Don’t try and hide your singing underneath loud music because you won’t be able to hear if you’re in tune or not.

Kitty McScratch featured in Both Guinness World Record books!

Kitty McScratch has done something that most gamers have only dreamed of and few have ever accomplished, she was featured in both the Guinness Book of World Records AND the Guinness Book of World Records: Gamers Edition for 2013!

For the 2011 Guinness Book of World Records, Kitty was mentioned for her score on Dare by Gorillaz on Just Dance, that she set at the 2010 Big Bang in her home town of Ottumwa, Iowa.  This was the very first world record that she had ever set!  Seeing this motivated her to start submitting more world records, and by the time Guinness was compiling scores for their 2012 book, she had more than 85 verified world records!  This prompted Guinness to name her “The Most Prolific Dancing Game High Scorer” in the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records: Gamers Edition!  At this time, Guinness decided to fly Kitty out to L.A. for a photo shoot to use to publicize their book.  The resulting photo was featured in dozens and dozens of news releases all over the world! (many are linked on the media page)

While being in the 2013 Gamers Edition was not a shock, finding out that she was in the main Guinness Book of World Records was, as Guinness had only mentioned using the photo for the Gamers Edition.  “I randomly saw the book on the shelf at a store while doing some Black Friday shopping with my mother-in-law.  As I was flipping through the pages while waiting in the check out line, I saw the picture from the photo shoot.  I couldn’t believe it!  I was so excited!” said Kitty.

Kitty McScratch sets new record for most prolific dancing game high scorer

NEW YORK (January 12, 2012) – A new dancing queen has boogied her way into the latest edition of the Guinness World Records 2012 Gamer’s Edition. The global authority on all things record-breaking is recognizing Elizabeth ‘Kitty McScratch’ Bolinger as the ‘Most Prolific Dancing Game High Scorer’ with more than 85 number one high scores on the Just Dance and Dance Central franchises.

Elizabeth’s love of gaming stems from using videogames as a way to challenge herself to new heights of achievement. The 24-year-old was first introduced to video games in the early 90’s by her father, who was immersed in the world of casual PC gaming.

Having first earned a place in the 2011 Gamer’s Edition with the high score for ‘Dare’ on Just Dance (11,661 points on Aug 8, 2010), Liz caught the record bug and has since racked up more than 85 high scores on the Twin Galaxies leaderboard. Her highest score is for the Dance Central track “C’mon Ride It (The Train)”, with a staggering 432,793 points!

A true dancing game enthusiast, Liz pushes the limits of her ability by achieving top scores blindfolded and sometimes backwards! Her favorite songs to dance to include “Hot and Cold” by Katy Perry where she’s scored over 16,000 points blindfolded and “Bullet Proof” by La Roux.

A long-time fan of the Guinness World Records books as a kid, Liz says: “You really can make dreams happen, it’s just a matter of putting in the hard work and dedication.”

She is one of the founders of the International Video Game Hall of Fame and Museum in her hometown Ottumwa, IA and is dedicated to preserving the history of videogames.

Guinness World Records 2012 Gamer’s Edition is available now in the US for a suggested retail price of $14.99 and available in the UK on January 19th.
