Hi, I’m Spooty.
I was born in What Cheer, Iowa on February 2nd, 1979
We had a Coleco Telstar Arcade console when I was really little that my older brothers and I would get out and play every once in a while, but it wasn’t until my parents got us a NES when it first came out, that I really started playing video games on a regular basis. I was around 6 years old when the NES came out, and I’ve owned at least one of every generation of console that has been released since.
I started playing video games because they seemed really interesting. It was fairly new technology at the time. It helps that my older brothers also liked to play.
I’m involved with the International Video Game Hall Of Fame and Kitty wrote in her bio how we came to be apart of that.
As far as my favorite types of games, I really like the single player action/rpg type games. I’m not a huge fan of multi-player games. Some are ok. It definitely comes down to who you are playing with. Games like Black Ops, I hate the multi-player mode when it’s just a bunch of strangers. That, and I’m not really good at first person shooters.
Some of my favorites are: Legend Of Zelda, Metroid and Castlevania. Almost any from any of the series. I like the mix of the action/rpg with the strategy/puzzlesolving. I like games that don’t just push you from point A to B to C and so on until it’s done. Two of my favorite games lately have no ending at all, World Of Warcraft and Minecraft. With WoW, even though there is a storyline to follow, there is so many possible ways to get there that it becomes very open-ended. With Minecraft, the game is only bound by your imagination.
I have a few goals for the future:
I would like to set some world records, even if they are fairly trivial.
I also want to get into the classic console video game market, which we have with our store Flipside. Body Piercing, Jewelry, Artwork and Video Games. It’s a great combination.
I also hope to stay involved with the IVGHOF. I think it’s a great thing not only for Ottumwa, but for the video game world in general. It is something that will help tie everyone together, no matter what games they like to play.
Other than working on perfecting the ancient midwestern art of spoonbending, I also like to collect Transformers and spend time with my wife, family and friends.
As far as anything else… I think there is a possible Donkey Kong kill screen coming up…
